Romanian airline AnimaWings announced on Monday that it will operate more than 50 scheduled and charter routes during the summer season and will expand its fleet to eight aircraft. The airline also announced a partnership with former WTA world No. 1 Simona Halep, who becomes the company’s brand ambassador, according to Romania Journal.
The company stated that it currently operates seven aircraft, while the eighth is expected to arrive in Romania in the coming days. According to the operator, six of the aircraft were delivered directly from the factory over the past 18 months.
AnimaWings announced that during the 2026 summer season it will operate more than 50 scheduled and charter routes to destinations across Europe. The flight network includes routes from Bucharest to Paris, Geneva, Munich, and London, as well as flights from Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara to several European destinations.
The company also announced that starting May 29 it will introduce flights between Bucharest and Milan Malpensa Airport, while from July it will operate routes from Cluj-Napoca to Vienna and Frankfurt, as well as from Timișoara to Copenhagen and Rotterdam. Starting in August, the operator will also launch Bucharest–Rotterdam and Bucharest–Strasbourg flights.
With the ambition to establish itself as a regional aviation player and develop a national-scale project, AnimaWings continues investments in its fleet and currently operates seven aircraft, with an eighth expected to arrive in Romania in the coming days. Six of them have been delivered directly from the factory over the past 18 months, making AnimaWings the airline with the youngest fleet in the local aviation market.
The event was also attended by representatives of Airbus, including Mr. Johan Pelissier, President of Airbus Europe Region, highlighting the strategic partnership developed with AnimaWings. The presence of the Airbus team in Bucharest marks the continuation of close cooperation between the two companies and supports AnimaWings’ accelerated development plans, as the Romanian airline is currently the main Airbus operator in Romania, investing in the new generation of A220 aircraft. At the same time, AnimaWings and Airbus are continuing discussions regarding future fleet expansion as part of the company’s growth strategy in the regional and European market.
Simona Halep becomes brand ambassador
AnimaWings also announced a partnership with Simona Halep, the most decorated tennis player in Romania’s history, who joins the country’s most ambitious private project as brand ambassador. In a period of rapid expansion, the full-service carrier is reaching a fleet of 8 next-generation aircraft, with which it will operate more than 50 routes this summer.
The collaboration marks the association between two Romanian names built around performance, professionalism, trust, and the desire to represent Romania at the highest international standards.
“Simona Halep is one of the strongest symbols of performance and professionalism in Romania, and we are glad that she has agreed to be alongside AnimaWings during this extremely important stage for the company. This partnership reflects the values we believe in: seriousness, excellence, ambition, and building a modern Romanian brand, competitive at an international level. The association with Simona Halep is a validation of the direction in which AnimaWings is developing and of the standards we aim to offer our passengers. At AnimaWings, we consistently support Romanian sport, performance, and new generations of champions at all levels. Through every AnimaWings aircraft that proudly carries the Romanian tricolor on its fuselage across major airports worldwide, we aim to promote Romania, its values, and the people who inspire through performance” ,said Marius Pandel, CEO AnimaWings.
“I choose to support Romania and to invest my time and image in a brand that inspires me. For me, professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for people matter greatly, and the experiences I had on AnimaWings flights convinced me that there is great potential for development for this Romanian brand. I believe we need more examples of local companies that grow beautifully, with ambition and high standards, and I am happy to be part of this story”, said Simona Halep.
In the modern history of women’s tennis, few athletes have captured the hearts of fans or personified the gritty spirit of determination quite like Simona Halep. The former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion has built a legacy that transcends mere statistics. For over a decade, the Romanian icon has been a symbol of relentless work ethic, tactical intelligence, and a rare emotional authenticity that made her one of the most respected figures on the WTA Tour.
From the clay courts of Roland Garros to the pristine grass of Wimbledon, Simona Halep’s journey is a cinematic narrative of triumph, fierce trials, and an unyielding refusal to give up.
The Ascent to the Peak: Conquering Paris and London
Simona Halep’s rise to the pinnacle of tennis was built on a baseline game defined by unmatched court coverage and an ability to turn defence into devastating offence. After reaching multiple Grand Slam finals and experiencing heartbreaking defeats, her breakthrough moments became masterclasses in psychological resilience.
Her first major crowning achievement arrived at Roland Garros in 2018, where she hoisted the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen, a victory that felt like a collective sigh of relief for an entire nation. Just a year later, Halep reached a state of tennis perfection at Wimbledon in 2019, defeating Serena Williams in a flawless, historic final that took just 56 minutes.

Standing Tall in the Face of Adversity
A champion’s true character is often measured not by how they celebrate their victories, but by how they navigate their darkest hours. In late 2022, Simona Halep entered the toughest battle of her life—one fought not on a tennis court, but in hearing rooms, following a highly publicised provisional suspension.
Throughout the lengthy, emotionally exhausting legal process, Simona Halep fiercely maintained her innocence, arguing that the banned substance had entered her system via a contaminated supplement. Her perseverance paid off when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) substantially reduced her ban, clear recognition of her lack of significant fault. The tennis world widely welcomed the ruling, validating the integrity of a player who had spent her entire career championing fair play.
The Anatomy of an Elite Competitor
| Performance Parameter | Tactical Trait | Impact on the Court |
| Movement & Agility | Exceptional court coverage | Forces opponents into playing “one extra ball,” leading to unforced errors. |
| Mental Toughness | “Never-say-die” attitude | Famous for mounting dramatic comebacks from match-point-down situations. |
| Return of Serve | One of the best backhand returns in WTA history | Neutralises big servers immediately, seizing control of the baseline. |
Cultivating the Next Generation of Romanian Talent
Beyond the trophies, Simona Halep’s impact on Romanian sports is monumental. Before her emergence, Romanian tennis had long been nostalgic for the era of Ilie Năstase and Virginia Ruzici. Simona Halep single-handedly sparked a tennis renaissance in her home country.
Her success led to massive investments in local tennis academies, inspired thousands of children to pick up a racket, and proved that athletes from outside traditional tennis superpowers could dominate the global stage. Even when sidelined, Simona Halep remained a vocal supporter of Romania’s Billie Jean King Cup team, showcasing her deep-rooted patriotism and commitment to the collective growth of the sport.
