”Museum of the Moon” to once again go on display in Cluj

The celebrated installation ”Museum of the Moon” by British artist Luke Jerram will once again be on display in Cluj from November 28 to December 7, as part of the 8th edition of the Lights On Romania festival, according to Agerpres.

”Museum of the Moon brings one of the oldest and most powerful symbols of humanity up close: the Moon. The installation invites us into a world of curiosity and allows us to get closer to the giant satellite in a way the human eye cannot capture. The creation of British artist Luke Jerram is a representation of the Moon based on NASA images and was created at a scale of 1:500,000, which means that each centimeter of the installation corresponds to 5 km of the lunar surface,” the organizers said in a statement.

According to the cited source, so far the Moon has been exhibited in various spaces – from churches to office buildings.

”Art has the power to change the way we look at urban spaces. An installation placed in the middle of the city is not just an object to admire, but a pretext for meetings, conversations and shared emotions. And the Museum of the Moon demonstrates this every time. Wherever it goes, the artwork tells a new story, one that makes sense through the eyes of the community,” said Andi Daiszler, founder of Lights On Romania, as cited in the release.

This year, the installation returns to Mihail Kogalniceanu Street, but in a different setting: in the area of the spectacular building of the Babes-Bolyai University Rectorate, right at the entrance to the festival area. The exhibition is made possible with the support of the City Hall and the Local Council of Cluj-Napoca.

”Throughout history, the Moon has inspired poets, painters, scientists and explorers. Museum of the Moon continues this tradition, having become, in its several hundred exhibitions, a platform for reflection, dialogue and imagination. Alongside Museum of the Moon, the 8th edition of the festival will also feature two unique artistic works: Forest Spirits and Pig Farm, that will bring joy to both art lovers and the youngest visitors. Also on Kogalniceanu Street, Cluj-Napoca residents will be able to discover the event’s commercial area called The Other Christmas Fair, offering festive dishes and handcrafted gifts. And beyond the artistic installations, the festival’s standout attraction this year will be the Light Bus – a bus dressed in light, which offers the most beautiful tour of the city after sunset,” the organizers also show.

Lights On is a free light installation festival launched in 2018 in Cluj-Napoca by the Daisler Association, being the first event of its kind in a member country of the International Light Festival Organization.
