Cluj-Napoca gets 2.5 mln euro from EEA for waste project

Romania’s city of Cluj-Napoca said it has accessed 2.48 million euro ($2.42 million) in financing from the European Economic Area (EEA) for a short-term waste management project. The project will be carried out through a partnership between the municipality and the Norwegian GS MiljøConsult Geir Sæther consortium, the Cluj-Napoca town hall said, according to SeeNews.com.

The municipality of Cluj-Napoca will contribute with 2.19 million euro, while the Norwegian consortium will contribute with 295,000 euro.

The project plans using an environmentally friendly method to manage the municipality’s short-term waste storage.

Besides economies to the local budget, the project will also contribute to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and decreasing pollution of the soil and surrounding water sources. In its entirety, the project is eligible for funding through EEA and Norwegian grants.
