Romania’s cars sales set to hit 10-year high this year

New cars sales in Romania rose by 22 percent year-on-year in the first eight month of this year, up to 119,093 units, a record high of the last 10 years, according to Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA). The number of new cars sales in January-August 2018 is the highest for this period since 2008, when the cars market in Romania was booming, according to Business-Review.eu.

In the first eight months of this year, passenger cars’ sales rose by 24.2 percent to 100,354 units, commercial vehicles’ deliveries increased by 13.2 percent to 16,814 units and buses’ sales slightly declined to 1,925 units.

Dacia, the local subsidiary of France’s Renault, maintained its leading position on the Romanian market, with 30,754 units sold in eight months, followed by Volkswagen (10,468 units), Skoda (8,950 units), Renault (7,473 units) and Ford (6,201 units).
