Smith & Associates, a Houston-based global electronic parts distributor, has opened a sales office in Romania. The office, which is in the northwest Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, will expand Smith’s presence in Europe and bring the company closer to its Central European customers, company officials said. A city of about 300,000, Cluj-Napoca “is quickly becoming a technological, educational, and cultural center of Europe” and has a growing skilled and educated work force, according to the company, says Chron.com.
“Cluj-Napoca is considered to be the Silicon Valley of Europe,” Luciana Cuc, who manages the new office, said in a statement. “It’s a space of new ideas and growth, with many major companies finding a home here. I’m excited to see what my team can achieve in such a unique and bustling market.”
Smith & Associates has 500 employees scattered among 15 offices worldwide.
