One of Romania’s best-known brands is targeting international expansion in 2026. Nobila Casa, founded in Cluj, one of Romania’s leading players in the field of interior design and decoration, has reached a turning point. After more than a quarter of a century of growth on the domestic market, this brand could take its first steps towards expansion on the international market in 2026, according to Ágnes Gundisch, CEO of the company that owns the brand, as reported by Via Cluj TV.
Basically, at this moment, Nobila Casa’s management is carefully analyzing the possibility of transforming itself from a national player into a relevant group in this region of Europe. “We don’t just want growth, we want development. And development means capitalizing on the opportunities offered by other markets in the region,” says Ágnes Gundisch, quoted by ClujInsider.ro.
The story of Mendola Group, which owns the Nobila Casa brand, began 35 years ago. From the very beginning, the “driving force” behind the group of companies in Cluj County was its founder, Zsuzsa Szekely. In 1999, she decided to open the first store selling decorations and interior design items, according to UPNews.ro.
After much thought, Zsuzsa Szekeley chose the name of the store after feeling inspired by one of the most important novels in world literature. “Nobila Casa” by James Clavell, according to Copilarie.org.
While in 1999, “Nobila Casa” was just a store located on Iuliu Maniu Street, by early 2026, this brand will have 18 physical stores, mainly located in Transylvania, coupled with a very strong online presence, according to ClujToday.ro.
The Mendola Group now has over 450 employees and a turnover of over €50 million. And 2026 could bring new directions for development.
“We are convinced that we can consolidate our presence in places where we are already performing well if we develop the Nobila Casa brand’s online presence correctly. Let’s take Cluj as an example: we are present in shopping malls, but also in the historic center of the city, and our products are appreciated by the local community. However, in recent years, our brand’s online presence has grown significantly, which increases its growth potential. We can follow this model in other centers as well. One such area would be Banat. We have physical stores in Arad and Timișoara, and we intend to consolidate our presence in these cities. In Timișoara, the Nobila Casa brand has greater potential than that offered by the mere presence of our store in Iulius Mall. We will maintain and continue to invest in this store in Timișoara, but the historic capital of Banat has a young, well-educated, and dynamic population that is investing more and more in online shopping. That is why, for Timișoara and the other large cities where we are present, we will have a new website in the coming weeks, which will complement our network of physical stores,” says Ágnes Gundisch.
The new electronic platform will also allow deliveries to other European countries where people appreciate the products offered by Nobila Casa. However, the second half of 2026 could also bring a greater international presence for this brand.
“We have closely followed the efforts made by the Romanian Royal Family to support companies in our country and in the Republic of Moldova. We were particularly struck by the promotion of investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova by Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, and His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania. Therefore, in the coming months, we will study the possibility of investing in Chișinău,” added Ágnes Gundisch.
