AnimaWings, a 100% Romanian airline, continues its investments in one of the youngest fleets in the local aviation market and has reached seven aircraft in operation following the addition of a new Airbus A220-300. At the same time, the full-service carrier announces a new wave of scheduled routes from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara, according to Romania Journal.
Starting this summer, Romanians will have more direct flight options with AnimaWings, offering comfortable and efficient travel conditions, as the airline expands its operations from regional airports. Timișoara already functions as an operational base with two aircraft assigned and flight crew hired locally, while Cluj-Napoca is currently under development and targeted for future expansion as a base. The new routes announced by AnimaWings will serve currently underserved connections, opening new opportunities for diaspora traffic and strengthening business links between major economic centres.
From Cluj-Napoca, the airline introduces two new routes to major European economic hubs, improving access to intercontinental destinations:
• Cluj-Napoca – Vienna (VIE), from July 17, with 2 flights per week (Tuesday and Friday)
• Cluj-Napoca – Frankfurt (FRA), from July 17, with 2 flights per week (Tuesday and Friday)
Both routes will also offer Business Class service.
At the same time, operations in western Romania are expanding with new direct connections from Timișoara:
• Timișoara – Copenhagen (CPH), from July 15, with 2 flights per week (Monday and Wednesday)
• Timișoara – Rotterdam (RTM), from July 19, with 2 flights per week (Wednesday and Sunday)
From Bucharest, AnimaWings is adding two new destinations:
• Bucharest – Rotterdam (RTM), from July 13, with 2 flights per week (Monday and Friday)
• Bucharest – Strasbourg (SXB), from August 17, with 2 flights per week (Monday and Thursday)
On all these flights, passengers benefit from a full-service onboard experience, with all tickets including free seat selection, an 8 kg cabin bag, and a 4 kg personal item.
A new Airbus A220-300 in the AnimaWings fleet
The expansion of the route network is supported by fleet growth, with the entry into service of a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft, registered as YR-BUN. AnimaWings now operates seven Airbus aircraft, including five Airbus A220-300 and two Airbus A320, making it the youngest fleet in Romanian aviation, with an average aircraft age of approximately five years.
The Airbus A220-300 is designed for short- and medium-haul routes and offers a seating capacity of 148 seats in a 3+2 layout across Economy and Premium Economy classes. The first 12 rows include 60 premium seats with extra legroom and adjustable headrests.
The cabin is designed for enhanced comfort, featuring wider seats, increased seat pitch, large panoramic windows, ambient LED lighting, and oversized overhead storage compartments. Each seat is equipped with a USB port, and cabin noise levels are reduced, contributing to a more comfortable flying experience on routes of up to 4–5 hours.
The aircraft also delivers improved operational performance, with fuel consumption reduced by up to 20–25% compared to previous-generation aircraft, supporting both operational efficiency and the company’s sustainability goals.
