An all-electric bus fleet in an ever-greener city

With more than EUR 100 millions invested, the first city in Romania to use electric buses, Cluj, planned to switch its public transport fleet into electric by 2030, according to cor.europa.eu.

Cluj-Napoca was the first city in Ro​​mania to use electric buses, and in 2014-20 it invested more than EUR 100 million in public transport thanks to support from the EU and Switzerland. The city’s aim now is for all public transport to be electric by 2030. At the same time, Cluj-Napoca has a spatial and urban planning strategy to promote cycling, walking and the use of privately owned electric cars.

Increasing the size of green spaces is on the strategic agenda of the administration. Within the next 10 years, Cluj-Napoca hopes to add 120 hectares of parks and 100 000 trees to its urban landscape. Cluj-Napoca be​​lieves in acting daily and locally to achieve global goals, such as mitigating climate change.​
