At 37, Islam Slimani set to make a fresh start in Romania

Islam Slimani is gearing up for a new European adventure with CFR Cluj. The former CR Belouizdad striker is expected in Romania this Monday, September 8, to finalize his move to the Cluj-Napoca club, according to Yahoo! Sports.

According to multiple sources, the 37-year-old Algerian international has decided to leave his boyhood club, CR Belouizdad, to return to Europe. While his contract with the Algerian side was set to run until June 2026, Islam Slimani has reportedly been a free agent since September 1, 2025, paving the way for his move to Romania.

If this signing with CFR Cluj is confirmed, it will mark his eighth stop after spells in Algeria, Portugal, England, Turkey, France, Belgium, and Brazil. The veteran striker continues to chase new footballing challenges despite his advancing age.
