Vincentians who are interested in pursuing studies in Romania at the Transilvania University of Brașov are urged to apply. The announcement, that as of September 11, 2025, 11 scholarships will be offered to Vincentians to study in that southeastern European country, was made by Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, during a press briefing on Monday April 7, 2025 at Cabinet Room. The Prime Minister, who visited Romania one week prior, said these scholarships present an excellent opportunity for young Vincentians, with added benefits such as part-time work allowances during studies, depending on the course being pursued, according to Search Light.
“I am hopeful, and I want the young people to listen to me, because we have so many options these days, our students are picking and choosing,” Gonsalves said.
He added that the details of the scholarships will be released soon.
In addition to educational and governmental engagements, the Prime Minister also met with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Romania and the Chamber of Commerce of the city of Bucharest.
He said discussions focused on trade, investment, and business development.
The Prime Minister said as well that he has invited a Romanian trade contingent to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, while a trade delegation from this country is expected to visit Romania.
Prime Minister Gonsalves also said he signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Government of Romania on Tertiary Education and Research; Agriculture and Fisheries; Health; Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Management; and Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic Cooperation, including the establishment of modalities for periodic meetings between foreign ministers of both countries.
He said in a meeting with that country’s Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, he ”had a very important engagement with him, one on one, with only an interpreter present where we traversed many important issues relating to global affairs, Europe, Ukraine, what’s happening in Latin America and the Caribbean, recent developments in the United States of America and so on and so forth”.
Gonsalves also visited the Transilvania University of Brașov, located about two and a half hours from Bucharest, where he met with three Vincentian students who are currently studying in Romania.
Two of these students are pursuing Master’s degrees, while another is completing a Bachelor’s degree.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a picturesque island nation located in the eastern Caribbean, part of the Lesser Antilles.
