The Hotel of Ice at Bâlea Lake has opened its doors to visitors, offering a unique experience for those wishing to spend a night in a room entirely sculpted from ice. This year, the hotel features 11 rooms and 11 igloos, each named after a famous composer or conductor, according to Business-Review.eu.
This season’s theme centers on international classical music, with each of the rooms named after renowned composers and conductors, including André Rieu and Simon Rattle. Sculptor Eugen Petri has crafted ice sculptures and bas-reliefs depicting these musical figures, enhancing the hotel’s unique ambiance.
The hotel is constructed annually using ice blocks extracted from Bâlea Lake and compacted snow reinforced with water. Favorable weather conditions this year have allowed for an earlier completion compared to previous seasons.
In addition to the 12 igloo-style rooms, the Ice Hotel features a bar and a restaurant with a dining area. The bar offers both cold beverages, served in ice glasses, and hot drinks such as specialty coffees, various teas and mulled wine.
Guests can choose between double rooms and family rooms. The beds are constructed from ice, topped with wooden slats, standard mattresses, linens, blankets, sleeping bags, and sheep furs to ensure thermal comfort.
