Romania ranks 49th in the Global Innovation Index. This ranking is compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, an international body operating under the aegis of the United Nations, according to ClujToday.ro.
Romania’s position in the Global Innovation Index is average, but the 49th place shows consistent progress in recent years, says historian Leonard Horvath, former director-general of the Romanian Copyright Office and Romania’s representative at the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
The ranking analyses 81 indicators, grouped into seven broad categories: business sophistication, economic sophistication, infrastructure, scientific research and human capital, institutions, know-how and technology, creativity and branding.
Switzerland is ranked first in the world, followed by the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Among the top countries in the world is Israel. South Korea is among the top countries in the world and China is ranked 11th.
Romania is among the 36 countries with a moderately sophisticated economy. Among them, our country ranks 8th. In this category, Romania is joined by countries such as China, Bulgaria, Turkey and Thailand. The surprise is China’s ranking in the middle segment, says Leonard Horvath, present on Via Cluj TV.
Romania has the capacity to progress in this international ranking, says Leonard Horvath. To achieve this goal, the Romanian state should allocate more generous budgets for scientific research, support universities more and stimulate the digital transformation of society.
