The overhaul works on the 30.4 km long section have to be designed and executed within 42 months, CFR said in a press release.
The financing will be provided from non-reimbursable EU funds under Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The infrastructure and superstructure of the railway section will be upgraded in order to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains. The works also comprise modernisation of a number of train stations and utility and maintenance buildings.
The rehabilitation of the Aghires-Poieni section is part of a project to upgrade the entire Cluj Napoca-Oradea-Episcopia Bihor-Frontiera railway line which is 166.2 km long.
Last week, CFR announced that it signed a 1.53 billion lei contract for the upgrade of the Aghires-Poieni railway section with the Arcada-Alstom consortium.
