Orange and Polytechnic Campus Research Institute open first 5G lab in Romania

Orange, in partnership with Polytechnic Campus Research Institute in Bucharest, opened the first 5G lab in Romania, a hub in which the academic environment, startups and companies can test solutions based on 5G technology. Orange Group announced in February the opening of nine Orange 5G labs in European regions where the group is present, of which one in Romania, where companies and researchers can test 5G technology, says ActMedia.eu.

5G Lab, hosted by University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) Campus Research Institute, is equipped with technology available in the commercial network in the future, now available only in labs: 5G Standalone Private Mobile Radio, the core component of 5G infrastructure; 5G New Radio – radio access component of 5G infrastructure; Open RAN and Open CORE based on the separation of software from hardware allow the virtualization of radio and core networks and can run the system on CoTS equipment and open interface; Edge Computing plays a key role allowing the reduction of distance between users (applications) and services (data) and facilitates transmission debit as requested by services and applications.

The launch of 5G Lab in Romania is part of an extensive program, developed by Orange Group, which intends to launch nine Orange 5G Labs in Europe. Researchers, companies and startups will be allowed to test their solutions and services, discover new 5G uses in an ecosystem based on co-innovation, which will help them transform their business model and processes.
