The official also mentioned that the institution he represents contributed with 700 million lei to the state budget last year from an excess of previous years, in order to support public authorities and reduce effects caused by the pandemic.
“Last year, during the emergency state, operators paid another 60 million euros (about 290 million lei) for licenses in the 2.1 MHz band, known as 3G, which were extended by ANCOM. The Romanian state received 110 million euros from extending those licenses because next to the 60 million euros, another 50 millions will be paid in November 2021 to the state budget. Last year ANCOM contributed with 799 million lei to the state budget during the emergency state to support the other public authorities to reduce effects caused by the pandemic,” said the vicepresident of ANCOM.
According to ANCOM statistics, there are 768 basic 5G stations in Romania and commercial services of this type are available in 34 localities of which ten in large cities: Bucharest, Timisoara, Iasi, Cluj Napoca, Brasov, Sibiu, Constanta, Oradea, Craiova and Ploiesti.
In early February, 2021, ANCOM announced in the Action Plan of the institution for 2021, that it would adopt this year a decision about the organization of selection procedures for granting the right to use a radio spectrum available for the implementation of new 5G technologies and carry out the tender.
On January 29, 2020, the European Commission approved the joint set of instruments including attenuation measures established by member states to answer security risks concerning the introduction of 5G technology, the fifth generation of mobile networks.
