Cable operator UPC Romania’s Q2 revenue grows 7.2% y/y

Cable operator UPC Romania, a unit of U.S.-based Liberty Global, its second quarter revenues rose 7.2% year-on-year to 183 million lei ($47 million/40  million euro), according to SeeNews.com.

The total number of the company’s subscribers was 2.318 million at end-June, up 6.2% on the year, UPC Romania said in a press release.

The number of Internet subscribers rose 8.1% to 553,700 during the three-month period to end-June.

In the second quarter, UPC’s subscriptions for digital television climbed 6.1%, reaching a total of 654,900 customers at end-June.

On the voice segment, UPC recorded a growth of over 16.2%, reaching a customer base of 503,200.

UPC Romania’s net revenue rose 8.8% to 689.3 million lei last year.

Founded in Cluj-Napoca as Astral Telecom S.A. in 1993, UPC Romania is now one of the country’s largest providers of TV, Internet and fixed-line telephone services.

In 2005, UPC Europe, a pan-European telecommunications company owned by Liberty Global, bought Astral Telecom for $420 million (383 million euro).
