Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air orders six Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

Low-cost airline Blue Air ordered yesterday six Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and retains the right to buy two more aircraft under the same conditions, says Romania-Insider.com.

The company thus became the first Boeing 737 MAX operator in Romania.

Moreover, Blue Air will rent 12 other Boeing 737 airplanes from Air Lease Corporation, with whom it has begun a collaboration this year.

The announcement was made at the Paris Air Show 2017, the world’s largest aerospace industry event, where the acquisition contract was signed yesterday. Blue Air’s fleet currently includes 29 Boeing 737 aircraft.

“The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling aircraft in Boeing’s history, with more than 3,700 orders from 87 customers worldwide,” said Blue Air representatives.

Blue Air general manager Gheorghe Racaru said that the company will start preparing to list its shares on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. However, the process could take three years.

Blue Air was founded in 2004. The company has eight operational bases in Bucharest, Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Iasi, Larnaca, Liverpool and Turin.
