Blue Air opens base in Romania’s Cluj

blue-airRomanian carrier Blue Air said on Monday it opened a base in Romania’s central western city of Cluj and will launch four new routes starting summer season 2017, according to SeeNews.com.

The four new routes will connect Cluj with London, Larnaca in Cyprus, Nice in France and Hamburg in Germany, starting on March 26, April 9, April 10 and June 3, respectively.

The new base will be serviced by a second 189-seat Boeing 737-800, Blue Air said in a press release.

Blue Air started operating from Cluj’s Avram Iancu International Airport in June, servicing four routes  – to Bucharest and Timisoara in Romania, Liverpool in Britain and Dublin in Ireland.

The company announced in June that it will launch Cluj – Birmingham flights on December 16.

Earlier in October, Blue Air has set up a new base in Liverpool from where it will operate flights to Rome, Milan, Hamburg and Alicante starting next summer, when the base will be operational.

In September, it set up a base at the Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport in Romania’s eastern city of Constanta, from where it will operate seven new domestic and international routes starting April 27, 2017.

The company’s operational bases are in Bucharest, Bacau, Cluj, Iasi, Larnaca and Turin.

Blue Air plans to transport 3.2 million passengers this year, up 50% from 2015.

Blue Air, the only air carrier in Romania with 100% Romanian capital, started operations in December 2004. In 2013, it was taken over by Airline Management Solutions Company in a 30 million euro ($33.6 million) deal.

The airline operates a fleet of 25 Boeing 737 aircraft and flies to over 70 destinations.
