Parliamentary Speaker Milan Brglez started a three-day official visit to Romania on Monday by opening a Slovenian consulate in the country’s second largest city Cluj-Napoci. Brglez said that consular diplomacy had become an indispensable element of Slovenia’s diplomatic efforts and that there are excellent relationships between Romania and Slovenia, according to ActMedia.eu.
“It is a great honour to me to be with my friend, the speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia, at a historical event for Romania’s strongest city in Transylvania (…). The opening of the honorary consular office of Slovenia in Cluj-Napoca exceeds by far the significance of a common event. (…) I would like to underscore the imperious need for our response, in political times marked by terrorism and extremism, such as the one we are living in, of recrudescent xenophobic political parties and movements that are isolationist and separatist to be the same as today: openness, cooperation and consolidation of mutual trust,” said Zgonea.
He added that Romania and Slovenia on Monday in Bucharest will sign a cooperation protocol between their national parliaments.
In his turn, Speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly Milan Brglez said Romania and Slovenia have very many cooperation opportunities and the opening of the consulate is a decisive step in their cooperation.
“The economic relations between our countries are good, but there are many opportunities to improve economic cooperation. There is a huge potential in the areas of information technology, renewable energy resources, environmental protection, healthcare, agriculture food industry, transport and tourism. So, there are still numerous unexplored opportunities,” said Brglez.
An official ceremony was held on Monday in Cluj-Napoca for the opening of Slovenia’s honorary consulate there. Slovenia’s honorary consul in Cluj-Napoca is Lucia Nora Morariu, a travel company manager.
