EBRD invests 59 mln euro in BT sustainability bonds

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said it has invested 297.6 million lei ($67.9 million/58.6 million euro) in Romanian lender Banca Transilvania’s sustainable bond issue worth 1.5 billion lei, according to See News.

The senior non-preferred bonds placed by Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV] on June 26 have a seven-year maturity, with a call option after the sixth year, the EBRD said in a project summary published on Monday.

Banca Transilvania said last month that it has raised 1.5 billion lei through its first leu-denominated sustainable bond issue, which will help finance sustainable projects and falls within the Minimum Requirement for Own Funds and Eligible Liabilities (MREL). Last week, the lender listed the issue on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Banca Transilvania is currently the leading bank in Romania, with a market share of 23% and almost 5 million customers, the EBRD noted.

Banca Transilvania’s net profit jumped by 41.8% year-on-year to 3.532 billion lei in 2024. Banca Transilvania shares traded 0.14% higher at 27.92 lei as at 1008 CET on July 30 on the Bucharest bourse.
