REWE opens 383rd Penny store in Romania

German supermarket chain REWE has opened a new Penny store in Romania, its 383rd in the country, according to See News.

The new store is located in the northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county, the company said in a press release. The value of the investment was not disclosed.

The store spans 896.93 sq m and offers 50 parking spaces. It marks Penny Romania’s second location in Cluj-Napoca and its seventh new store in 2024.

In August, REWE kicked off the construction of a Penny warehouse worth 35 million euro ($38.4 million) in the southern town of Mihailesti, Giurgiu county, as part of its ongoing expansion.

REWE has been operating in Romania since 2005. The company employs over 7,300 people in the country and currently has four logistics centres – in Stefanestii de Jos, Turda, Bacau, and Filiasi.
