LIMP BIZKIT, SOMBR, NOISIA, 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER, JOEY VALENCE & BRAE ANNOUNCED IN FIRST WAVE OF NAMES FOR 2027

At a time when musical genres are increasingly difficult to define and generations are rediscovering each other’s favourite artists, Electric Castle continues to bring together acts from vastly different musical worlds. Limp Bizkit, Sombr, Noisia, Joey Valence & Brae and 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) are the first artists confirmed for the festival’s 13th edition, taking place from July 15–18, 2027, at Bánffy Castle in Transylvania.

L, I, M, P Bizkit is right here! Few lyrics will be more eagerly anticipated at Electric Castle 2027. Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit are returning to the festival to set off some massive mosh pits in front of the main stage. One of the bands responsible for bringing nu metal into the mainstream, Limp Bizkit seem more relevant than ever, with their anti-censorship, anti-establishment attitude resonating with a new generation. Their latest album, Still Sucks, proves they have lost none of their appetite for bringing audiences together, from the generation that made “Break Stuff” an anthem to younger fans who find an outlet for everyday frustrations, along with unexpected cultural references, in their music.

Sombr (Shane Boose), another Electric Castle 2027 headliner, has gone from a singer-songwriter finding viral success on TikTok to a Grammy-nominated alt-pop artist with a sold-out tour, all in just a few years. And he is only 21. For sombr, every major achievement seems to be a stepping stone towards something even bigger. Singles “Back to Friends” and “Undressed” propelled him into the spotlight, while his 2025 debut album, I Barely Know Her, earned him numerous awards and nominations, enthusiastic praise from Taylor Swift, and an impressive 17 million streams on its first day of release. As with his performances around the world, tens of thousands of fans are expected to welcome him to Electric Castle for a memorable show on the festival’s main stage.

5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) are one of Australia’s biggest musical success stories, no small achievement for a country with such a remarkable history of exporting global stars. First introduced to international audiences as the opening act for One Direction, the band has since built a worldwide career spanning more than a decade, including their global hit ‘Youngblood’ and three consecutive Billboard 200 No. 1 albums. Electric Castle will host 5SOS for their first-ever performance in Romania, at what is arguably the most creatively exciting stage of their career. Having long outgrown the boy-band label that followed them in their early years, the group has developed a more rock-driven sound, layered with dance and electronic influences. The result is an explosive live show, and one of the performances not to be missed at the festival’s 13th edition, July 15–18, 2027.

Every July, the quiet Transylvanian commune of Bonțida undergoes a radical metamorphosis. Just 30 kilometers outside Cluj-Napoca, the historic Bánffy Castle—once hailed as the “Versailles of Transylvania”—sheds its centuries of silence to become the heartbeat of one of Europe’s most distinctive music festivals: Electric Castle.

Operating around the clock for five consecutive days, Electric Castle has broken the mold of standard outdoor music events. By merging a protected architectural landmark with genre-defying music lineups, cutting-edge new-media art, and an authentic community ethos, the festival has established itself as an essential destination on the European summer festival circuit.

The Soul of Bonțida: Forged in Rain, Sun, and Mud

What cemented Electric Castle’s international reputation was not pristine weather, but its resilience against the elements. Early editions gained near-mythic status for torrential summer downpours that turned the castle grounds into ankle-deep seas of mud. Rather than driving festival-goers away, the rain forged a legendary sense of camaraderie.

Yellow rain ponchos and rubber boots quickly became iconic fashion statements rather than practical gear. The crowd embraced the motto “It doesn’t rain at Bonțida; it creates memories.” This shared resilience turned the festival into a genuine rite of passage for concert-goers from across the continent, proving that neither sound nor spirit stops when the clouds open up.

Eclecticism by Design: A Lineup Without Genre Boundaries

Electric Castle stands apart by deliberately refusing to cater to a single demographic or commercial trend. Its curation creates unexpected sonic collisions across its stages:

  1. Global Headliners:

The Main Stage has played host to major acts across the alternative and electronic spectrum, including Florence + The Machine, Gorillaz, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, Twenty One Pilots, Queens of the Stone Age, Skrillex, and Bring Me The Horizon.

  2. The 24/7 Underground Engine:

Tucked inside the wooded groves and brick courtyards of the estate, stages like the Booha Mansion, Hangar, and Hideout run non-stop. They deliver relentless sets of techno, experimental house, and deep drum and bass that keep thousands dancing well past sunrise.

  3. A Launchpad for Regional Talent:

Alongside international chart-toppers, the festival provides a premier platform for Romanian indie, alternative rock, and underground hip-hop artists, matching them with festival-grade sound systems and expansive festival production.

Reviving the “Versailles of Transylvania”

The most significant aspect of Electric Castle’s identity is its symbiotic partnership with historical preservation. Prior to the festival’s inception in 2013, Bánffy Castle lay largely in ruin—ravaged by retreating German forces in World War II, neglected during the communist period, and deteriorating under the elements.

Working in direct cooperation with the Transylvania Trust Foundation:

  • A portion of every festival ticket goes directly into structural conservation and rebuilding efforts.

  • Masonry has been stabilized, grand roofs and Baroque facades restored, and historic outbuildings revitalized.

  • Rather than treating the heritage site as a passive backdrop, the festival integrates the architecture directly into the experience, utilizing projection mapping across the facade and hosting indoor sound-art installations within its historic chambers.

Rural Synergy and Modern Sustainability

Beyond the perimeter fences, Electric Castle has catalyzed the rural economy of Bonțida. Each summer, local villagers open their courtyards, offering homestays, homegrown produce, and traditional Transylvanian meals to thousands of visitors. The resulting cross-generational bond between local residents and international music fans remains one of the festival’s most endearing features.

At the same time, the festival operates as a sustainability pioneer: running advanced zero-waste recycling initiatives, heavily curbing single-use plastics, and encouraging public transit via round-the-clock festival trains running directly between Cluj-Napoca and Bonțida.

Electric Castle is more than a summer music festival; it is a temporary cultural haven. In the shadows of stone ramparts, it demonstrates how contemporary art, community solidarity, and historic preservation can breathe vibrant, modern life into the past.
