German commercial vehicle manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull, through its Romanian subsidiary, will buy 11.75 hectares in Industrial Park IV in Oradea for EUR 3.76 million, where it plans to build a EUR 25 mln factory, according to Romania Insider.
The company will build a hall of approximately 23,500 square metres for the production of chassis subassemblies for semi-trailers and the assembly of complete vehicles, ebihoreanul.ro reported.
Following an initial assembly footprint in the region, this expansion transitions Oradea into a core production hub for CEE markets, strengthening Western Romania’s position as a automotive and transport manufacturing corridor.

Scope of Operations and Infrastructure Development
The planned facility is engineered to combine subassembly manufacturing with complete vehicle production:
-
Production & Assembly Lines: The 23,500-square-meter facility will focus on producing chassis subassemblies for semi-trailers, curtain-siders, and tippers, alongside full assembly lines for completed transport vehicles.
-
Municipal & Utility Support: Oradea City Hall will facilitate infrastructure access, bringing high-capacity utilities directly to the boundary of the plot. Additionally, local power line relocations are being integrated into the region’s smart specialization park framework funded by European Union grants.
-
Strategic Logistics Footprint: Situated in Industrial Park IV, the plant benefits from direct road and rail connectivity toward Central and Western European freight corridors, optimizing supply chain logistics across the CEE region.
Regional Economic and Strategic Impact
The commitment by Schmitz Cargobull delivers multi-layered economic advantages for Oradea and Bihor County:
-
Job Creation & Industrial Skills: The project will generate over 200 direct technical jobs for engineers, quality managers, and assembly specialists, while stimulating additional indirect employment in secondary logistics and components supply.
-
Anchor Tenant for Industrial Park IV: As the largest investment hosted in Industrial Park IV to date, the development reinforces Oradea’s reputation for proactive public-private administrative partnership and investment attraction.
-
Export Expansion: By manufacturing semi-trailer components locally, the facility enhances Romania’s industrial export footprint within the European commercial vehicle sector.
The investment confirms Oradea’s transition from a regional logistics node into a major manufacturing hub for Europe’s leading commercial transport equipment producers.
