A10 Sebeș-Turda has had lane closures for months due to ground instability

On the A10 motorway between Sebeș and Turda, an important link between the A1 near Sebeș and the region around Cluj-Napoca, two of the three lanes have been closed for months. The cause is persistent ground instability beneath the carriageway at kilometre 66, which has repeatedly led to cracks and subsidence since 2023/2024, according to Europamaut.com.

Initial restrictions were already in place from 28 May 2026, and after another, larger landslide, the roughly 500-metre section between kilometre 65+900 and 66+400 in the direction of Turda had to be completely closed at times from 7 July 2026. New photos from 5 September 2026 show that the section remains severely damaged – there is still no concrete end date for the restrictions.

Third closure at the same spot since 2023

The A10 was only built a few years ago at a cost of around €90 million, yet the ground at this spot is already subsiding for the third time. Earlier stabilisation attempts in 2023 and 2024 failed to permanently solve the problem. The case has since been handed over to the responsible county crisis committee (Comitetul Județean pentru Situații de Urgență), which is working on a final technical solution.
