His Holiness Pope Leo XIV confirmed the election of His Beatitude Claudiu Lucian Pop as Major Archbishop of the Romanian Church United with Rome, Greek Catholic. Here is the content of the papal letter of recognition:
”I have received the Letter in which, pursuant to canon 153 §2 of the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium, Your Beatitude asked me to confirm the choice made by the Synod of Bishops of the Greek Catholic Church, which elected you Major Archbishop of Făgăras şi Alba Iulia of the Romanians.
In this regard, I am pleased to grant you this confirmation and to express my fraternal congratulations in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God. I pray that, following the example of your venerable predecessors, Your Beatitude, as Father and Head of this beloved sui iuris Church, will be a Shepherd who, according to the Heart of Christ, cares for the flock entrusted to you.
May the Holy Spirit guide you, Beatitude, in the ministry to which the Lord has called you, to promote the communion and mission of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church, so that she may grow and prosper, mindful of the many martyrs and confessors who have written indelible and glorious pages of faith with the witness of their lives.
In extending my cordial greetings to the Bishop Members of the Synod, the clergy, men and women religious, seminarians, candidates for consecrated life and the lay faithful, I invoke the intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God and impart a special Apostolic Blessing to Your Beatitude, assuring you of my fraternal closeness”.
