Republic of Moldova admitted to the prestigious Historic Cafes Route

The prestigious European cultural route Historic Cafes Route accredited by the Council of Europe in 2022 has been extended to the Republic of Moldova. The new Board of Directors of this cultural route has approved the membership of the first entity in Moldova. The accession was approved at the very first meeting led by the new president of the Historic Cafes Route, the Romanian Arnold Klingeis. This is the first time in history that a Romanian citizen has led a European cultural route, according to ClujToday.ro.

Moldova is currently represented in the Historic Cafes Route by the restaurant Sala de Degustare Wine.md. Historic Cafes Route President Arnold Klingeis says this decision was a duty of honour. “In February this year, I had the honour and pleasure to participate in the Economic Forum in Chisinau as a speaker. From the podium of the event, I mentioned that I would support the inclusion of Moldovan restaurants, cafes and hotels that meet the necessary conditions in the Route of Historic Cafes, in order to support the development of tourism. There, I promised this to His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, as well as to Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of Moldova, and Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Parliament in Chisinau. Now I am happy to fulfil this promise”, said Arnold Klingeis.

He said he was impressed by the hospitality of the Moldovan hosts, the beauty of the old buildings in and around Chisinau, the high quality of the wines, coffee specialities and the diversity of the historical gastronomy.

The Wine.md Tasting Room operates in an emblematic building of the capital of Moldova, a historical and architectural monument. The building is known to locals as “The Cellar or Oksinoit’s House”, after the name of one of the owners who owned the building in the 19th century. Guests passing through the restaurant’s doors have the opportunity to taste from the 400 types and varieties of wine available, all produced in Moldova. Gourmets are also treated to some of the finest cuisine and coffee specialities.

Alongside the Wine.md Tasting Room, the Historic Cafes Route Board of Directors has also approved the admission of a well-known restaurant in Alba Iulia, Romania. It is Pub 13 – Carolina Castle in the European network of “Golden Cafes”, which brings together some of the most representative European cafes.

The President of the Historic Cafes Route, Arnold Klingeis, was until now the ambassador in Romania of the Council of Europe for this prestigious cultural route. He is an entrepreneur with great experience in tourism. He manages the famous Ice Hotel in the Bâlea Lac area as well as the Brukenthal Palace in Avrig. This palace was the summer residence of the governor of Transylvania and is the centre of a splendid Baroque estate, transformed into an elite hotel establishment.
