
The awarded project encompasses a comprehensive overhaul of the bridge, which was originally constructed in 1987 and spans 214 meters. According to CNAIR’s general director, Cristian Pistol, the undertaking will involve significant superstructure and infrastructure works. The project’s timeline is set at 15 months, divided into a 4-month design phase followed by an 11-month construction period. Furthermore, the project will be backed by a ten-year warranty, ensuring its longevity and reliability for the foreseeable future.
Geiger Transilvania and Pod-Proiect, the winning consortium members, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Established in 2004, Geiger Transilvania has carved out a niche for itself in the Romanian road construction sector. The company’s recent financials reveal a net profit of 25.4 million lei on a turnover of 224.4 million lei in 2022, employing 426 individuals. On the other hand, Pod-Proiect, a design and engineering firm founded in 2002, reported a net loss of 117,831 lei on a turnover of 1.7 million lei in the same period. Despite Pod-Proiect’s financial setback, the consortium’s combined capabilities are expected to drive the successful delivery of this critical infrastructure project.
The bridge’s rehabilitation is financed through non-reimbursable European funds, highlighting the project’s significance within the broader context of Romania’s infrastructure development and European integration efforts. This funding mechanism not only underscores the strategic importance of the bridge in facilitating regional trade and mobility but also reflects the European Union’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in member states. The successful completion of this project is anticipated to significantly improve traffic flow and safety on this crucial transportation artery, thereby contributing to the economic development of the region.
