Romania’s anti-trust body approves Clever Business Transilvania’s takeover of Prima TV

Romania’s competition authority approved the recent takeover of local Prima TV by Clever Business Transilvania media group, according to SeeNews.com.

“Following a review of the transaction, the Competition Council found that it does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition in the market, in particular by establishing or strengthening of a dominant position,” the Competition Council said in a statement.

Clever Business Transilvania will acquire the Prima TV’s business from Prima Broadcasting, a company currently in judicial reorganization.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

Clever Business Transilvania owner Adrian Tomsa has several investments in Romania’s media sector, including TV channels LookPlus and LookSport, AgroTV and Profit.ro website, according to information from the Competition Council.

Prima TV was one of the first commercial television stations in Romania that started to broadcast in 1997. Its operator Prima Broadcasting declared insolvency in 2015 and entered a process of judicial reorganization in 2017, according to data posted on the finance ministry website.
