Libris.ro sold 1.5 million books in 2018; 5 out of 9 bestselling authors are Romanian

Libris.ro, the largest online bookstore in Romania, sold over 1.5 million books in 2018. Five of the 9 authors of the 10 best-selling books in 2018 are Romanians and Irina Binder is in the top 10 with 2 volumes, according to Business-Review.eu.

‘The stranger next to me’, by Irina Binder, was the bestselling book on Libris.ro in 2018, being the favorite book in 30 of the 42 counties of the country. ‘Insomnia’ by the same author ranks 2nd in the national top, followed by the ‘Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint Exubery, ‘Medicine, nutrition and good mood’ by Simona Tivadar and ‘Sapiens. Brief History of Humankind’ by Yuval Noah Harari.

Bucharest, with 313,517 books, Brasov, with 130,873 and Cluj with 83,488 are the counties that ordered most books through Libris.ro in 2018. The bestselling titles in these counties were the ‘The stranger next to me’ by Irina Binder in Bucharest, ‘Blind’ by Petronela Rotar in Brasov and the ‘Romanian Constitution’ in Cluj.

The highest average order value was recorded in Brasov, RON 155, almost double the national average of RON 80. The most loyal customer on Libris.ro is also from Brasov, haivng placed 238 orders in 2018. In fact, customers in Brasov made an average of 1.73 orders, the highest value among counties. Customers in Bacau placed an average of 1.45 orders, and those in Cluj and Bucharest, 1.44 orders.

Fiction, personal development and children books are the most popular book categories on Libris.ro, along with manuals and school books, in almost all counties of the country.

“Parental preoccupation for children’s education is becoming more and more noticeable in all areas of the country. School books, children books and parenting books are consistently among the top favorite categories, the top yet dominated by fiction. We are also pleased to note the growing popularity of the books written by Romanian authors,” says Laura Teposu, development director and founder at Libris.ro.
