Telecom players in Romania say 5G implementation by 2020 to be impacted by IoT

The main telecom players on the Romanian market say that the preparations for implementing the 5G technology by 2020, could accommodate the growing market for the Internet of Things (IoT) and provide a boost for self-driving cars, for instance, according to Business-Review.eu.

5G brings two main ingredients – speed and very small delays, said Catalin Buliga, chief technology officer of Vodafone Romania, during the seventh Focus on Technology & Telecom, organized on Wednesdayby Business Review Magazine.

“Networks are already in the 4G plus range,” said Buliga. The CTO said that the customers of Vodafone Romania are already registering an improved experience of the services following the roll out of Supernet 4G plus.

“IoT will be the next big transformation across industries,” explained Buliga.

According to Timos Tsokanis, chief technology and information officer at Telekom Romania, the implementation of 5G will not happen overnight and massive investments are needed in the network.

“It’s not just about speed, but it’s also self-transforming networks,” said Tsokanis.
