Europe’s biggest classical guitar festival starts in Târgu-Mureș

The 19th edition of the Harmonia Cordis International Classical Guitar Festival, the largest classical guitar festival in Europe where artists from 15 countries will be performing, kicked off on Tuesday afternoon at the Palace of Culture in Târgu-Mureș by a concert of students of the local Collegiate High School of Arts, according to Agerpres.

Florian Babtan-Varga (Romania), Tritonus Guitar Trio (Hungary), Cassie Martin (France) and Marcin Dylla (Poland) were the first to perform on the stages of the Harmonia Cordis International Festival.

Starting Wednesday, at the University of Arts in Târgu-Mureș, masterclasses will be held, a classical guitar concert-exhibition featuring Eduardo Alferez of Spain, Constantin Dumitriu and Vlad Nedelcu of Romania as guests.

In the afternoon, a concert by the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music from Cluj-Napoca is scheduled, after which Tomasz Radziszewski (Poland), Mateusz Kowalski (Poland), Duo Tomasz Radziszewski & Mateusz Kowalski, Nino D’Amico (Italy), Duo Bandini-Chiacchiaretta (Italy/Argentina) will perform.

From Tuesday to Sunday, the city of Târgu-Mureș hosts the 19th edition of the Harmonia Cordis International Classical Guitar Festival, and the main guest of this edition is the most important acoustic guitarist in the world, the renowned Australian virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel.

Along with Tommy Emmanuel, renowned flamenco and jazz artists will perform, including Los Tres Mangificos: Jeronimo Maya, Rycardo Moreno, Pepe Fernandez (Spain/France), Cenk Erdogan Trio (Turkey), Alexandr Misko (Russia), Lydie Fuerte & Juan-Manuel Cortes (France), Antal Pusztai Jazz Band (Austria/Romania), along with top representatives of classical music such as Marcin Dylla (Poland), Rovshan Mamedkuleiv (Russia), Duo Bandini-Chiacchiaretta (Italy/Argentina), Duo Andras Csaki & Janos Balint (Hungary), Tritonus Guitar Trio (Hungary), Duo Mateusz Kowalski & Tomasz Radziszewski (Poland).

Part of the festival will be the final of the Harmonia Cordis International Guitar Competition, the most important classical guitar competition in Romania with prizes worth over EUR 10,000.

In addition to taking part in concerts and competitions, the public can also participate in individual master classes and workshops and tour exhibitions that are part of the festival.
