LOT Polish Airlines expands Romanian network with new Warsaw-Oradea route

LOT Polish Airlines has introduced direct flights to Oradea, marking the airline’s third Romanian destination after Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. The inaugural flight departed from Warsaw on June 3, 2024, opening another gateway for travelers exploring southeastern Europe. This expansion aligns with LOT’s 2024-2028 strategy, which aims to launch 20 new connections by 2028, according to Travel and Tour World.

The new Warsaw-Oradea route will operate four times a week throughout the year, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. On Wednesdays and Fridays, flight LO655 will depart from Warsaw at 11:25, with the return flight LO656 leaving Oradea at 14:35. On Mondays and Saturdays, flight LO657 will leave Warsaw at 14:30, with the return flight LO658 departing Oradea at 17:40. The flights, operated by Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft, will have a duration of approximately 1.5 hours.

“Oradea is now the third port in Romania served by LOT Polish Airlines. The new connection is not just another option for those seeking travel inspiration – it is also a tool for development of economic and tourism relations in the Bihor region. On board our welcoming decks, travellers from Oradea can not only discover the charms of Warsaw and Poland but also, thanks to our network of connections, reach over 80 cities in Europe, North America, and Asia” says Michał Fijoł, President of LOT Polish Airlines.

Oradea, a city in Romania’s Bihor County near the Hungarian border, is renowned for its eclectic architecture, blending Art Nouveau, Baroque, and Socialist Realist styles. Its charming streets, reminiscent of the belle époque, and historical monuments reflect the city’s rich history and cosmopolitan tradition. As one of Romania’s fastest-growing centers, Oradea is a gateway to thermal springs, including the spa town of Băile Felix. It also serves as an excellent base for exploring the Western Romanian Mountains, featuring karst caves, valleys, and gorges within the Apuseni National Park.

“Ensuring air connectivity is a basic condition for the development of a community. This connectivity depends on attracting investors, orienting local firms towards export, tourism, the ability to travel comfortably over long distances, and maintaining connections with those who have gone abroad. The Oradea – Warsaw flights connect Bihor County to dozens of destinations around the world” said the Bihor County President Ilie Bolojan.

With the Warsaw-Oradea connection, passengers from Romania’s Bihor region gain convenient access to Poland and numerous other attractive destinations within LOT Polish Airlines’ network. The Polish carrier offers a wide range of popular destinations in Western Europe, including Paris, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt. For those planning transatlantic trips, LOT Polish Airlines provides direct flights to Canada, the United States, and Asia, with destinations such as Toronto, New York, Chicago, and Tokyo.

Thanks to cooperation under the PSO (Public Service Obligation) formula, flights from Warsaw to Oradea will be operated in collaboration with the Bihor region. Round trip ticket prices start at 469 zloty. Since Romania joined the Schengen area on March 31, 2024, check-in procedures have been significantly streamlined, enhancing the comfort of travel to and from the country.
