The National Olympiad of Romani Language and Literature will be held in one of Cluj-Napoca’s Orthodox theological educational institutions’ contemporary, spacious facilities, says Orthodox Times.
The organizers and the Orthodox Metropolitan of Cluj confirmed the arrangements.
Crăciun Ioan Lăcătuș, president of the Social-Missionary-Cultural Orthodox Association for Roma “St. Moses the Black,” Liliana Chiriac, Roma school inspector for the Cluj County School Inspectorate, and Dragoș Roșianu, president of the Youth Organization of the Cluj Pro-Europe Roma Party, attended the meeting.
“Since his arrival in Cluj in 2011, His Eminence Metropolitan Andrei of Cluj has personally supported the mission in the Roma communities of the Metropolis of Cluj through the establishment of missionary parishes in Roma communities, the ordination of Roma priests, fundraisers for the construction of social centres intended for vulnerable Roma categories, the provision of supplies and food for poor Roma communities in the Archdiocese, the free celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism for Roma children and youth from poor communities, financial support for funerals for Roma families in extreme poverty, lobbying for the introduction of the study of the Romani language at the Faculty of Letters at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca in 2016 and the financial support of some administrative expenses for the organisation of the university course, officiation of memorial services for the deported Roma and those from the period of slavery, and, since 2017, on the occasion of the International Day of the Roma, the celebration of the hierarchical Divine Liturgy with bilingual Romanian-Romani liturgical answers,” the organisers of the Olympiad noted.
The National Olympiad of Romani Language and Literature will take place in Cluj-Napoca on April 6-8, 2023.
