Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air said it is allocating two new aircraft to its Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest bases and will launch five new routes from the two Romanian cities. The new Airbus A321ceo aircraft will join the fleet at the beginning of August, increasing the airline’s number of aircraft in Cluj-Napoca to seven, Wizz Air said in a press release quoted by SeeNews.com.
Starting August 2, Wizz Air will fly Cluj-Napoca to Corfu every Tuesday and Saturday, while other two routes to Naples and Turin will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, both starting from August 3.
Wizz Air also announced that the Cluj-Napoca – Paris-Beauvais service will increase with three more flights, to nine flights per week. The routes to Barcelona and Brussels-Charleroi will both increase with two additional flights, to seven flights per week. The routes to Málaga, Madrid, Tel-Aviv, Doncaster-Sheffield, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Memmingen and Chania will all increase by one flight per week.
“The addition of our 7th brand new and modern Airbus A321ceo aircraft at the Cluj-Napoca base further reinforces our commitment for expansion in the region and confirms Wizz Air’s growth strategy, with the three new destinations and ten destinations with increased frequencies that will operate from Cluj International Airport,” Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said.
On Wednesday, Wizz Air announced in a separate press release that a new Airbus A321neo aircraft will be allocated to its base in Bucharest in July, taking the total number of aircraft in the Bucharest fleet to 12.
Starting July 6, the company will start to fly from Bucharest to the Greek city of Preveza, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also, from September 29, Wizz Air will start operating a route from Bucharest to Italy’s Rimini, on Thursdays and Sundays.
“This marks an important milestone for the Romanian network, as we continue our expansion and adapt to the steady revival to the pre-pandemic capacity,” Wizz Air Acting Network Officer Evelin Horváth said.
Wizz Air is present in Romania since 2006 and currently offers over 140 domestic and international routes from eleven airports in the country.
