Between 2.5 AND 5 percent of the global population suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. ADHD is commonly diagnosed at the age of 6-7 years, and is a chronic condition. If not treated early, it progresses and worsens into adolescence and adulthood in about 60 percent of patients. Attention deficit thus hampers personal development and social integration.
Often, the child exhibits all three descriptive elements of this disorder: hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention, with varying degrees of severity. The diagnosis of ADHD is made by the psychiatrist or neurologist.
