Romania’s Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV] increased its market share to 18.46% at the end of 2020, from 17.72% a year earlier, remaining the largest bank by assets in the country, the central bank said, according to SeeNews.com.
With total assets of 103.7 billion lei ($25 billion/21 billion euro) at the end of December 2020, Banca Transilvania led the annual ranking for a third time after 2018, according to a Romanian central bank report published on Monday.
Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), owned by Austria’s Erste [BSE:EBS] ranked second, with assets of 79.5 billion lei at end-2020 and a market share of 14.20%, down from 14.43% in 2019.
BRD bank [BSE:BRD], majority owned by French financial group Societe Generale, ranked third, with assets worth 61.6 billion lei and a market share of 11.01% at the end of 2020, lower than 11.28% in the previous year.
The 10 largest lenders in Romania held a combined share of 86% of the country’s banking market at the end of 2020.
