EIB Group concluded financing accords of 809 million euros in 2020 in Romania

The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF) concluded last year financing accords with public and private partners in Romania for 809 million euros, according to ActMedia.eu.

Funds were allocated in the fields of college education, water distribution, energy efficiency and private investments,  the latter being meant to support companies for  economic challenges triggered by the pandemic.

The investment package of EIB Group in Romania was confirmed after several meetings held by EIB representatives with finance minister Alexandru Nazare, with the minister of investments and European projects and that of energy and transports, the EIB press release mentions.

The amount of 633 million euros is meant, through the accord between EIB, EIF and financial partners in Romania, to ensure financing access for private investments, loans in agriculture and for companies in production and services, according to the document. That package has in view to increase access to financing, so that Romanian companies could better cope with economic challenges brought along by the pandemic.

Last year EIB launched the first financing scheme of college education in Romania, the first two loans being granted to the Technical University in Cluj Napoca and to “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest.

At the same time, last year EIB continued to support energy efficiency in Romania, through the 42 million euros invested in investment programs for energy efficiency, carried out in three sectors in Bucharest. The aim of the programs is to reduce energy consumption and heating bills for 900 blocks of flats and 19 schools.

In the next months, EIB considers it will complete its support for the erection of three hospitals – the Regional Emergency Hospital in Iasi and new hospitals in Craiova and Cluj.
