Romania’s Technical University of Cluj-Napoca will receive 0.93 million euro ($1.04 million) grant from the European Commission to develop a high-performance computing infrastructure that can be integrated into cloud computing systems and massive data systems, according to SeeNews.com.
The total cost of the project is 1.09 million euro, of which 930,000 euro will be offered through EU’s Competitiveness Operational Program (OCP) for the 2014-2020 period, the European Commission said in a press release.
The university has signed collaboration agreements with the University of Geneva, with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and with the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics Bucharest (ICI) for standardization, interconnection and use of computing resources with cloud systems.
Through its flexible configuration and wide variety of services, the university’s CLOUDUT infrastructure will help research teams optimize the use of scientific resources and computing power in areas such as large volumes of data, artificial intelligence, industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT).
