Dozens of Romanian seasonal workers will fly into Britain today, prompting concerns that some may have slipped out of the country’s “coronavirus red zone”, says The Times.
A charter flight of 180 workers is due to land at Stansted airport as part of a push by the farming industry to ease a chronic shortage of seasonal labour.
The flight, organised by Air Charter Service, will take off from Iasi airport, 90 miles from the city of Suceava, the centre of Romania’s Covid-19 outbreak. To date in Romania there have been 7,216 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 372 deaths. The UK has recorded 98,476 cases and 12,868 deaths.
