Romania’s Simona Halep will not participate in the Fed Cup tournament next year as she does not like the new format and wants to focus on the Olympic Games instead, says Ion Tiriac, according to TennisWorldUSA.org.
Ion Tiriac says, “Simona told me that she does not want to come to the Fed Cup because she is focusing on the Olympics.”
Romania is playing Russia in the qualifying tie for the Fed Cup – the winner of the tie will advance to the Fed Cup Finals which are to be held in Budapest in April next year. The dates are scheduled from April 14 to April 19.
The Romania and Russia tie will take place in Cluj-Napoca in the Multipurpose Hall on February 7 and 8 next year. Romania had reached the semi-finals of the Fed Cup event this year. The winner will be part of the 12 teams that participate in the newly formatted Fed Cup finals tournament.
