Hungarian national train operator MÁV-Start is planning to scale back international services from December due to mounting losses in the sector, according cu RailJournal.com.
The EuroNight Metropol from Budapest to Berlin will be cut back to terminate at Prague from December, and the Corona from Budapest to Braşov will no longer include sleeping cars. Services to Burgas and Varna on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast will be withdrawn and the portion of the Budapest – Belgrade train which continues to Bar in Montenegro will also be axed.
In addition, MÁV-Start plans to abolish dining cars on services from Hungary to Cluj-Napoca, Belgrade, Ljubljana, Braşov and Vienna.
RailJet services between Budapest and Vienna could also be restricted exclusively to international passengers. At present these trains are used by passengers making domestic journeys between Budapest and Tatabánya/Győr on RailJet services.
