Tulane Women’s Basketball graduate Leslie Vorpahl signs contract to play in Cluj

Graduation day will forever mark a significant milestone in the lives of student-athletes, where new earned degrees spark blossoming careers. For a select few, their careers continue on in the sport that they love, which stands true for 2017 Tulane women’s basketball graduate Leslie Vorpahl, says SportsNola.com.

On Tuesday, Vorpahl signed a contract which will take her talents overseas to Romania where she’ll be playing for Club Sportiv Universitatea Cluj-Napoca.

“The game of basketball has blessed me with so many incredible teammates and coaches and has allowed me to live in an amazing city like New Orleans,” Vorpahl explained. “It has also allowed me to travel all over the United States competing against some of the best, and now I can say this game is allowing me to experience something I have always dreamed of. I am beyond excited to continue to play the game I love in another country.”

From San Antonio, to New Orleans, to now Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Vorpahl will make the trek to Europe when her contract begins August 15. Club Sportiv Universitatea Cluj-Napoca competes in the top tier league in Romania where they earned a second place finish last season.

Vorpahl is the first Tulane player to compete overseas since 2012 graduate Brett Benzio, who played for DJK Brose Bambert from September 2012-April 2014, in Bamberg, Germany.

Vorpahl was just the third person in school history to surpass both 1,000 career points and 500 career assists, ultimately finishing third all-time with 558 assists. In her senior season, Vorpahl dished out a total of 201 assists, which ranked 18th in the country.
